This website was created by Ritchie Barton, one of the original Cunard Yanks. Sadly, Ritchie died in 2018. His ashes, along with those of his wife, were scattered in the river Mersey, so they are still travelling the seas together.

The site is not being updated, but you can contact us at the following email address and we will try to answer your enquiry: j.williams@wearestagetwo.com

Below are the messages Ritchie received:

Hello , My name is Marisa Kellett or as my dad called me "our kid " . I have just stumbled accross the web site and low and behold on the tab "Where are they now " - lost meet the boys -Billy Bennili's Shipmates - is a a picture of my dad Michael (Mike,Mick) Kellett & my mum Rozalind (Roz) Kellett . There is a recent photo of my dad as well when he went to the showing of the DVD in Southampton. For one moment I actualy thought my dad was back in the same room as me , and I shed a few tears while looking at the old photos.

Im not sure if people know Michael passed away on the 5 November 2008 at the age of 65. After fighting a three week battle of terminal lung cancer , dad never knew he had the discease prior to be ammitted into hospital but was taken ill very suddenly and unfortunatly also picked up a hospital bug Clostridium difficile (C diff) this did not help .Dad did not get the cancer treatment required , and dad chose to recieve no more treatment and chose to die because he could not cope anymore with C diff.

Not only have I lost my dad but also my sole mate & best friend . A big part of mine & my mums life is missing . I still keep looking for him and cannot accept that he is not returning to it.I will never hear about the great ships again and I never got to tell dad what he meant to me, or buy him his pint of guiness.

I know rumours have gone around Liverpool & Southampton , that "I was going to not tell anyone he died or not divoldge when the funeral was taking place " This is not true . I was just doing what my dad wanted me to do .To try and come to terms with what happened before telling everyone that a great man had passed away .Someone started this terrible rumours and they have effected me terribly. My dad was a kind , honest ,hard working , reliable person and did not deserve this treatment when he died.Neither did my mum or me.

I promised dad that I would come back to Liverpool in 2009 and meet everyone from the "Captains table " to celebrate dads life and listen to what he was like and share a good drink with them . Dad said that everyone would welcome me & mum but Im not sure how I'm able to do this now , if people believe maliciouse rumours about my wonderful dad Michael Kellett.

I would love to know more about my dads days on the ships ,working his way through the ranks and on the football teams , in the pig and the wonderful countries he visited.I would love to hear about "Jim Kellett " dads brother who moved to Australia but passed away in 1991, Im sure some people may have worked with my granddad as well, If anyone is able or willing to pass on stories or photos of my dad , my uncle & my grandad it would be so greatly appreciated . If people have photos I would love to get copies and I am more than willing to pay the cost of copies and the postage .

I just wish I had been told of this web site when dad was alive , he would have loved it .

Please feel free to pass on my email address to anyone .
