BILLYS old BROWNIE SNAPS

Vinnie McCardle...on the Q.E.2 early sixties...

Vincent Grimes... looks as if he has ended in the sink...never mind Vinnie...it happens to the best of us...

Vic Ellis...Johnny Sefton...Joey Blundell...come on lads...paper cups...you were patronising the lower hostelries...tut...tut...tut

Mr Blundell again...with friends...I won't name them to protect their image...plus the fact...I don't know who they are

Now this crowd I do know...Vinnie McCardle...Henry Ball...Tommy Jennings...Charlie O'Neil...Mike Murray...Don Ellis...Dominic Hogan...Billy Potter...and Eric Jones...

PEACOCKS and POSER

Georgie Phillips...smooth ...smart....sophisticated...well weren't we... A touch of the Brando's there...don't you think...

George Innajales...with friend...I wonder if they needed a bouncer in that bar...

... Big Dave Smith...from the Wirral you know... well I know he got the Ferry most nights...always with a pretty girl...excellent taste with the ladies... and his tailor wasn't bad either... wonder if it was Abrahams

Johnny Redhead...the quiet man...I wonder who he was leading up this garden path...it has been known to happen...so I've heard...

Young Mr Gary Leacey...a dedicated follower of fashion...and good music...and I do believe...pretty girls...

...Ritchie Barton...he was just a lonely boy...honest...it was just that Owen Thompson was the guy whose style he most admired...never made it to the bars though...

Yank Godden...looking like a stand-in for Kenny Rodgers...the other guy... can't remember what ship he was on...anyone know him?

Mr Joseph Blundell Esq. ...Mr B shirt...regulation white mac....is that outside a church?... couldn't be going to confession...could he...

Billy Harrison... photographer... and chronicler of our youth... looking very serious... wonder why...

Ivan Hayward...and Nita outside the Registry Office in Mount Pleasant...just married...I know the place well...followed the same path a few years later

How about this crowd eh...what a bunch of pretty boys...from The Roseland Ballroom to The Grafton and Locarno...you would find them in Dempsey's Bar...or Ma Shaws... The Waldorf in New York...The Hilton in Montego Bay... even the Dos Hermano's in Havana...well...some of them...but we sure did get around...didn't we...

WALLY LEATHER'S WALKING SHOES

Wally on the Queen Mary 1950 Tourist of course.. He hadn't made the Veranda Grill at the time

Joe Parr...Archie Mitchell... Billy Kelly...on the Ocean Monarch...they swore they hadn't been fired from the Mary...but could you believe them

..."The Tourist Tigers"... on the Queen Mary...1950... what a team...undefeated for two years... I understand quite a number of lads on other ships still bear the scars on their legs

Wally and Joe Parr...a couple of choirboys... no way...even if on this picture they look so serene...respectable almost...

Party time...Wally...Doris...Jackie Beamish... Vinnie....Joe Parr again...And Danny Dolan...I'm sure Doris's mother didn't know the company she was keeping...

Another party... Xmas this time...at the Kelly's place... they would let anyone in...check out this crowd... Wally and Doris... Kenny Cochrane and Pat...mine host and various friends.. looks like a good time was had by all...

A bunch of tourist waiters on the Queen Mary in 1950...there's Wally...Peter Bath...Jonesey...and others... a motley looking group...what...but didn't they scrub up well...

Did these guys ever work...Wally...Peter Hall the kid who boxed with Joe Parr...silly boy...Joe knocked him out in the second round...and the usual suspects... Doris there again...a rose in a crowd of nettles...

The boys in the Pig...celebrating again... I believe it was the ships cat's birthday.. well you had to have a reason...didn't you... Kelly as ever...Jonesy...McCardle...Peter Hall.. Kenny Potts...Wally of course and others...

Now this picture is different...Wally Working... and they said it couldn't happen...its not a joke... though the bloods are laughing at something

...Officers and Gentlemen...that is what these guys told the young girls they met...but we know better... don't we... Our Wally...Dennis Eles...Billy Branifor

Check a lot of these guys out as they are today...in the Where are you Now gallery...you will be Surprised how well...they look...

As most of us know...the Cunard carried almost every movie star of note...here are some great pictures Billy Harrison took on the Queen Mary..

This is Clark Gable in 1954...judging a crew boxing match... this one was no problem...it was Joe Parr... Knocking out his opponent in the second round...

Gable again at the same match...waiting for a bout to begin...

Clark Gable...still mixing with the crew...down graded a bit though...

From one extreme to the other...Liberace in the Officers mess... I think it was around 1956-7

This guy was always a clown...so I am led to believe... Terry Thomas and some of the ships entertainers in the boys pig 1955...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

..."Queen Elizabeth" commi's outside the "Cunard Diner" 1949 L/R ,,,Kenny Douglas... ???...Kenny Ayling...Mike Boyd...Knobby Broomfield...Ronny Wright...????... Do you think they had been barred out of the Market Diner...

..."Queen Elizabeth" 1947 on the bridge wing...Dougy Bravo...Staff Captains Steward...Jimmy James Commodores Valet/Tiger...Pete Jelley and Mike Shea...Commi's... I think Pete and Mike were after the other guys jobs myself...don't let those angelic smiles fool you...

Pete Jelley...Paul Marks and his wife...George Jones...We organised the first ships dance, at Reece's Ballroom during the annual lay-up in Liverpool... I know...they still talk about it today...oh boy...

Ron Greaves... Rex Everest...Pete Jelley...Peter Groves...Brian Still..."Caronia" crew at Butlins...Clacton-on-Sea 1951... Cowboys...they definitely chose the right outfits...didn't they.

The "Caronia's" commi waiters 1949/50 L/R ???...???,,,Mike Atwool...Billy Cook...Mike Short...Peter Zanallloti...Knobby Broomfield... This crowd look bright... obviously they haven't been staying out late in bars..not like someone we know...

..."Queen Elizabeth" Football team 1951...B/R 4th on left...Eric Hamblett... 8th on left John Snow...Far right...Jimmy James... If you can fill in any other names that would be great.

..."Caronia" crew members New York bar on 50th St... the other side of Broadway...1949...Back Row L/R...Rex Everest...Ronny Greaves...John Mace...Dennis Washington...Arthur Bryant...Front Row...L/R...Sidney Bennett...Pete Jelley...(a 15 year old...how did you get in there...don't tell me...)Roy Merewood...Brian Still...Billy Appleton...Les Osborne...Gordon Head...Molly Knight on the mike...on piano...owner of the bar... It's a good job Pete's mother didn't know where he was at night...

..."Caronias" North Cape cruise...1952...now...there is a prize for anyone who can name 20...15... 10...alright I will settle for one or two.

..."Queen Mary" crew mess1949/50... These guys could have graced the halls of "Eton" with their white bows... hope we can get some names for these faces...

Jamo's Jokers

A likely lad eh... Mrs Jamieson's favourite son...young Albert...sweet seventeen...never been kissed ...kicked ... or cuddled...so he would have had you believe...

Another picture...with a couple of mates...don't know their names...anyone have a clue...dig Al's socks... he was wearing them at the Grafton...

How's this for posing...he had just seen Kirk Douglas in "Champion"... got the look off to a T didn't he...

Three of a kind here...Albert and a couple of mates...look as if they are surveying the scene...and liking what they see...

Albert in later years...on the Queen Elizabeth 2...still a smoothie... still a poser...that smile was always worth a few extra bucks...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tommy Reynolds and Steve Jones...pretending to be 1st class waiters...love the Slim Jim bow ties...very smart...but Tommy he made the pants to long...

So... Who are you looking at Scouse...

Looks like the same party... still wearing those daft hats....

Now you can see where they got this innate taste in headgear...Gravesend...52??? 53??? God were we ever that young...

Same crowd at least they got rid of the hats...Come on...except for Tommy in the front row...anyone recognise themselves...

What a bunch here's Tommy... Jonesey...Eddie Dean...and Eddie lawless...again don't know the other two guys...at a party somewhere...they have got to be party hats those lads are wearing...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of the lads will remember Jack Tansey...he was Gym instructor on many Cunard ships... A couple of his brothers played for Everton...Here is a picture of him sparring with Bruce Woodcock... somewhere there is a picture of him sparring with the President of the U.S.A....one of the best they have had...Ronald Reagan...when he was just a film star...Jack said he was one of the nicest guys he ever meet...and he was a hell of a good judge of men... Peter can you make this picture a little larger than the others...thanks Ritchie
